Sector update: Healthcare stocks slightly down this afternoon

Healthcare stocks trended lower this afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index falling 0.2%, while the SPDR Health Care Select Sector ETF (XLV) was down 0.3%.

The Nasdaq Biotechnology Index was also down 1.1%.

In company news, Icosavax (ICVX) plunged more than 14% after the biopharmaceutical company reported no earnings for its second quarter ended June 30, from $1.9 million in the same quarter of 2021 and the analyst estimate of 1, Missed $2 million.

Genprex (GNPX) was still 1.9% higher, giving back most of a nearly 28% gain just after Tuesday’s opening bell, and the company said it had secured a U.S. patent for its immunogenic cancer therapy Reqorsa combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors. Reqorsa is currently being tested in phase 1/2 in patients with late-stage non-small cell lung cancer.

Arcellx (ACLX) rose 2.9% after the immunotherapy company reported a net loss of $0.88 per share for the second quarter, improving the loss of $36.42 per share in the year-ago period and also boosting Capital IQ’s Beat consensus, which was expecting a net loss of $1.09 per share.
