When our coffee tables became our desks and our living rooms became our conference rooms, the line between work and personal life was all but broken.

This pandemic phenomenon of the merging of professional and private world is the reason for the job evaluation platform Glassdoor Approved a list of the companies with the best work-life balance, said Daniel Zhao, senior economist at Glassdoor. This list gives both job seekers and employers valuable insight into the companies and policies that keep employees happy.

Glassdoor analyzed the work-life balance ratings that companies received between March 15, 2020 and September 28, 2021. Only data was retrieved from companies with 75 or more full-time work-life balance ratings in the United States.

The individual companies at the top of the list cover a wide variety of industries. For example, technology, real estate, and finance were among the highest rated industries, while retail, hospitality, and manufacturing ranked lower.

“There is actually quite a variety and variety there,” Zhao said. “And if we actually look at what employees say about their employers’ appreciation of work-life balance, we also see a multitude of approaches.”

Glassdoor’s study also found an increase in employee ratings that mentioned mental health and burnout from February 2020 to September 2021. Because of this, rankings like Glassdoor’s are important for job seekers who find a company to support them, Zhao said.

But this ranking is also useful for company management.

“This data is really valuable because it enables employers to understand how they measure up against competitors,” said Zhao. “And when an employer realizes that he has a gap in the work-life balance, it signals to him that he should ask for feedback from the employees in order to actually understand what drives these differences.”

These are the 10 companies that had the best work-life balance between March 2020 and September 2021, according to employee reviews on Glassdoor.
